In 2012 I was studying the book Christ the Healer and I came across this statement in chapter one, “The Word of God is the Will of God.” This statement provoked me to study God’s will and this has become a staple in my preaching and foundational to my belief system.
I want to encourage you this month with some good news about God’s will to excite you about the possibilities of accomplishing the impossible, equipping you to face the enemy’s opposition with absolute confidence and boldness. I want you to know God’s will with a certainty that gives you the assurance of obtaining results or the promises of God for your life. Healing. Prosperity. Breakthrough. Abundant Peace. These are only the beginning of what can be obtained when God’s will is known and believed. Remember, faith begins where the will of God is known.
In Luke 2 we find the story of the angels heralding the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Verse 10 reads, “Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy (or strength) which will be to all people.’” Luke 2:14 continues, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” The word peace means exemption from rage and havoc of war. It is the tranquil state of a soul assured of its full salvation which includes healing, deliverance, and prosperity, through Christ Jesus, so fearing nothing. God, unwilling to allow mankind to be eternally separated from Him, fully satisfied His demand for justice and thus provides the reality of heaven to man on earth. God’s will is to ALL people, peace!
Note this in Luke 18:18-19, “No one is good but one, that is God.” So, Luke 2:14 could be read like this, “…on earth peace, God’s will toward men.” What is amazing about this thought is that God is not at war with you. He is not mad at you and therefore justly cannot put sickness, hardship, or lack on you. It would be unjust on His part and against His will or Word. Please understand, your current problem has nothing to do with you being in or out of the will of God. God’s will does not exempt you from problems, but rather provides a platform from which you can use your authority, God’s word, against the enemy.
Ephesians 5:17 says, “Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Someone might say, “You never know what God is going to do!” To which I would say, “You can if you can read.” To understand the will of the Lord is to come to a place where your heart is fixed or established, being firmly persuaded by His word. To make a quality decision from a renewed mind where there is no discussion or oscillation of conclusion. There is no retreat or drawing back. You become steadfast and unmovable, appropriating your given inheritance in Christ. You arrive at this place of steadfastness by making God’s word a priority and final authority in your life. Remember, circumstances don’t dictate to you the result, God’s word does.
Acts 10:34-35 says, “Then Peter opened his mouth and said, ‘In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness (or peace) is accepted by Him.’” The will of God is not selective, but inclusive, remember it’s to all people.
2 Peter 3:9 states, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance – or the changing of one’s mind.” The difference between God’s will and a person’s will is the ability and power to accomplish the will. I might “will” to buy you a new car, but without the financial ability my will stands only as a desire. In contrast, God’s will holds the desire and choice, as well as the ability and power to bring His will to pass.
Man might will to save himself but is incapable of doing so. God on the other hand wills to save mankind and holds the power to accomplish and fulfill His will, and He did in Christ Jesus.
The will of God can only come to pass in agreement and unity. The will of God thrives in oneness. Philippians 2:8 reveals this truth, “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” When we read the Word of God it renews our minds to God’s will. When we pray in tongues, according to Romans 8:26-27, we are declaring God’s perfect will in our time of weakness. So, when you read and pray you are unifying your whole person with the will of God, releasing manifestations of the supernatural that bring about breakthrough.
Remember that God’s will was accomplished in Christ, it is His abundant grace we receive that releases the will of God to flow freely into our lives. Manifestations of the miraculous, healings, breakthrough, and provision are expressions of God’s will that we can experience as we humble ourselves and become obedient to Him. God’s will is never suppressive or dominating, rather it is loving and full of mercy and kindness.
By aligning yourself with Him, you become tender and willing to hear and obey His voice, which is His will, and are given the ability of the Spirit to accomplish anything and overcome every resistance. Jesus prayed in Matthew 26:39, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Jesus was saying, “Not as I would choose or desire, but according to your already determined and accomplish will, let it be done.” This agreement with the Father released the realities of heaven and brought complete deliverance to us all.
To summarize: God’s will is peace on earth (peace with you). God’s will is inclusive, and God’s will is accomplished. I encourage you to lay hold of what God has willed for you in the shed blood of Jesus, knowing you are forgiven, as you actively seek His face from which flows all spiritual blessing.
Time is short, so don’t wonder about God’s will, know it! Be a bold believer, not a doubter and I promise you will see the goodness of God in the land of the living!
