As I watch news clips of events around the world and here in America one word comes to mind: frantic. Many are running wild with fear and pain without the knowledge or ability to bring clarity and calm to their surroundings and situations. There must be a universal solution to the chaos where all can be saved.
Before we introduce the One true solution let’s take a walk in history. Solomon, King David’s son, was given the responsibility to rule over Israel. In the beginning moments of his reign as king, God asked Solomon, “What shall I give you?” Solomon’s response pleased God.
1 Kings 3:9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil.”
An understanding heart is a heart that has been fixed and will not be persuaded or moved in the face of difficulty. Psalms 112:8 reads, “His heart is established; He will not be afraid, until he sees his desires upon his enemies.” God promised Jesus that He would make His enemies His footstool and place all things under His feet. Sickness, poverty, depression and confusion (just to name a few) are placed in a defeated position under Christ. Not only has the oppression of the enemy been removed but also lost provision of all things has been restored. Jesus said in John 10:9, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” The healing, growth and needed supplies for life are laid out before us and made available through Jesus Christ.
Paul’s prayer for the church at Ephesus echoes Solomon’s request and confirms by the Spirit God’s will for every believer.
Ephesians 1:17b – 18 …may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened.
The take away from the requests and prayers of these two men is that we all need to exercise our hearing hearts towards the voice of the Father. No other truth is more vital to our success in life than knowing that we can hear the voice of God in His word and by His Spirit. John 10:4 says, “the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.”
“Through the Word, hearing is perfected and through perfected hearing understanding will establish the heart.”
King Solomon and the Apostle Paul understood a very important truth. When one becomes established, he will not be moved from his place of authority and power. No natural disaster, global plague or financial crash can shake the heart of one who has heard the voice of God and has been led out by the Good Shepherd to the place of peace, health and abundance. Jesus is the savior of the world through whom we have been given understanding and established hearts.
