I remember growing up in Columbus Georgia where my Dad and Mom were children pastors. My parents had received Christ in their thirties and were head over heals in love with Jesus. Dad was all about memorizing scripture and had tons of 3×5 cards full of the Word that he consistently mulled over almost ever day.
One day my dad handed my brother Dylan and I these little spiral 3×5 booklets full of scriptures. We were to memorize them and from time to time dad would do pop quiz drills on those verses. Many of those verses are forever locked into my spirit, I can’t seem to forget them. If someone says, “Hebrews 4:12…I’m like, boom…The Word of God is quick and powerful…and so on. Its in there ready for any moment.
One of those verses that I want to bring to light is 1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV) which reads, “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” Paul is writing here to the folks at Corinth and was dealing with their carnal thinking and ways. We know this because chapter three continues this thought by saying in verse one, “and I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.” So we see that Paul is not talking to unbelievers that don’t have the spirit of life already in them, but born again believers that are full of the spirit of God yet not being SPIRITUALLY MINDED. They had been consumed with natural, physical mindsets and action.
The more we pour over the Word of God, which we know to be spirit, and meditate on its truths the more our lives will be lived in the spirit, our thoughts spiritual and it producing its fruits in us and making alive the fullness of all God has called us to. Be Spiritually Minded! Allow the way you process and respond to life’s moments be done from the mind of Christ and power of the Spirit of God.
